Did you know that there is no electricity on freight cars?
Today, transport is almost exclusively carried out by heavy goods vehicles, which, apart from the enormous CO2 emissions, are responsible for a large part of the world’s micro-gum and micro-plastics through tyre abrasion. Due to the lack of economical and environmentally friendly solutions, the global market for refrigerated rail transport is underdeveloped.
We have solved this problem and developed a system that enables sustainable refrigerated transport by rail. The first 100 systems are already successfully in use in Europe and contribute to the #EuropeanGreenDeal. Through the European Green Deal, the market share of rail freight is expected to reach 30% by 2030.
Today, we are the only company with a unique solution that provides energy for cooling gensets through regeneration (power generation) by axle generators.
Together with FH students and under the direction of Holger Gröning, a project has now been implemented at the FH OÖ Campus Wels – Faculty of Technology & Applied Sciences to support SWS Power Solutions in scaling up. While two MeWi teams examined the system for technical and economic optimisation potential, the other two teams dealt with the value chain.looked at the value chain.
Holger Gröning emphasises that with the help of the DFMA method (Design For Manufacturing and Assembly) the number of components could be reduced by 27%. This not only enables savings in component costs but also a significant reduction in assembly times. As a result, we were presented with concrete recommendations for action to implement an upramp strategy and an aftersales concept.
This shows once again how the courses offered by FH Oberösterreich support the development of practical, industry-oriented and sustainable high-tech solutions.
We thank FH OÖ and Holger Gröning for the great cooperation.
